7D Ranch

The 7D Ranch lies at about 6,800 feet in the Sunlight Basin, roughly an hour northwest of Cody and close to Yellowstone National Park, with the Sunlight River running through the property. It is one of the more secluded ranches in the Cody area and has room for only about 32 guests.

Stays are a week, from June through September. The ranch keeps about 75 horses, and riding covers every level: a brunch ride, half- and full-day rides, private instruction and overnight pack trips, with trail riding from age 6. Fly fishing is a real strength: you can fish the Sunlight River, there is a weekly hiking and fishing trip into the Beartooth Mountains, and a fishing guide anywhere in the Sunlight Basin is included at no extra cost. There are also guided hikes, skeet shooting, archery, UTV tours, Yellowstone day trips and rafting on the Shoshone River, and a children’s program for ages 6 to 12.

Guests stay in ten private log cabins among the aspens, with one to four bedrooms, private baths, wood-burning stoves and porches. Meals include ranch-raised beef and homemade bread and desserts, and there is daily housekeeping; babysitting costs extra. Yellowstone Regional Airport in Cody is about 52 miles away and the ranch offers a shuttle. Ask the ranch for current rates.
