Idaho's guest ranches fall into two very different regions: the high, wild country around Stanley in central Idaho, and the forested Panhandle in the north. Both are less crowded than the ranch regions around Yellowstone.
The central Idaho ranches are summer destinations, and the high country stays cool at night even in July. In the Panhandle, Red Horse runs from May to October and Western Pleasure is open year-round, with no minimum stay in winter.
For the Panhandle ranches, Spokane International (GEG) in Washington is the usual airport: about 70 miles from Red Horse and about 90 from Western Pleasure. The Stanley-area ranches are remote, so ask the ranch about the best route and road conditions when you book.
Frontier Stays lists 4 guest and dude ranches in Idaho, each checked against the ranch's own information or its Dude Ranchers' Association listing.
Red Horse Mountain Ranch, Western Pleasure Guest Ranch and Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch describe their stays as all-inclusive. What that covers varies (drinks, gratuities and airport transfers are not always included), so check each ranch page.
Red Horse Mountain Ranch, Western Pleasure Guest Ranch and Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch run children's programs. Minimum riding ages differ by ranch, usually between 5 and 8.
Yes. Western Pleasure Guest Ranch take guests in winter. Most other ranches in the state are summer and fall only.
Diamond D Ranch and Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch have fly fishing as a main activity, on their own water or with guides nearby.
