Colorado has some of the best-known guest ranches in the West, and they differ more than the photos suggest. Some are all-inclusive down to the wine and the airport shuttle; others include your riding and meals but charge for drinks, spa time and fly fishing guides. Some fill up with families every summer week; others set aside whole seasons for adults. These are the things worth comparing before you send an inquiry.
Summer (June to August) is peak season. The classic format is a full week with a fixed arrival day: C Lazy U runs Sunday-to-Sunday stays in peak summer, Vista Verde Sunday to Saturday. Kids' programs run at full strength, and the best weeks book early.
Late summer and fall are when many ranches turn adults-only or offer shorter stays. Vista Verde is adults-only from late August through October, and C Lazy U schedules adults-only weeks in May, early June, late August, September and October.
Winter is a real option at the ranches that stay open. Expect riding at a walk through the snow, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sleigh rides rather than a ski-resort week. Vista Verde runs winter packages from late December to late March, and C Lazy U's winter activities run from mid-December to mid-March.
Prices vary widely, and some ranches only quote on request. A few published examples, as listed by the ranches when we checked in October 2026:
When you compare, check what is not included: gratuities, taxes and fees, alcohol, spa treatments, guided fishing and airport transfers can add a meaningful amount to the final bill.
Denver International Airport (DEN) is the main gateway for most Colorado ranches. Yampa Valley Regional (HDN) is the closest airport for the Steamboat area, and Grand Junction Regional (GJT) for the Western Slope. Some ranches include airport transfers; others help you arrange them.
