THE EXPERIENCE
Where Every Moment Tells a Story
Latigo Ranch sits at about 9,000 feet above Kremmling in Grand County, next to roughly 50,000 acres of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. Frederick Kasdorf Jr. founded it as a dude ranch called Snowshoe Ranch and built its main log lodge in 1923; it took the name Latigo in 1982, and the George family now runs it full time.
Latigo has two seasons. In summer, from June to September, it is an all-inclusive dude ranch for about 32 to 34 guests, with six-night stays. Activities, horses and meals are included: beginner rides, horsemanship and private lessons, cattle work and team penning, plus fishing, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, archery and yoga. Children’s programs run in age groups from 2 to 17, and trail riding starts at age 6. In winter, in January and February, the ranch becomes a Nordic center, with three-night stays and cross-country skiing on the surrounding national forest.
Guests stay in one- and three-bedroom log cabins with porches and a fireplace or wood stove, and there is a pool, hot tub and game room. Yampa Valley Regional Airport is about 81 miles away and Denver about 135 miles. Ask the ranch for current rates.
