Wyoming has more guest ranches than any other state we cover, and a long history behind them: Eatons' Ranch in the Bighorns has taken guests since 1879, and several ranches near Cody and Jackson Hole date from the 1920s. Most run a classic dude-ranch week in summer, with a fixed arrival day, your own horse for the stay and family-style meals. The biggest differences are the region, how much is included and whether the ranch is built around families or adults.
Almost every Wyoming ranch runs from June to September, and July and August are the busiest weeks for families. A full week is the norm in high summer, with shorter stays at the start and end of the season at many ranches. A few, including Triangle X, Brooks Lake Lodge and the Vee Bar, also take guests in winter.
Some ranches describe their stays as all-inclusive, among them Blackwater Creek, UXU, Rimrock, Crossed Sabres and Magee Homestead. Elsewhere, lodging, meals and riding are usually included but fly-fishing guides, alcohol, rafting and airport transfers may not be. Always compare what is included, plus gratuities and taxes, before you compare prices.
Jackson Hole (JAC) serves the Teton and Dubois ranches, Cody's Yellowstone Regional (COD) the North Fork ranches, and Sheridan (SHR) the Bighorns. For southern Wyoming, Laramie (LAR) and Denver International (DEN) are the usual choices. Many ranches run shuttles, sometimes for a fee, so ask when you inquire.
Frontier Stays lists 29 guest and dude ranches in Wyoming, each checked against the ranch's own information or its Dude Ranchers' Association listing.
Brush Creek Ranch, CM Ranch, Eatons’ Ranch, Lost Creek Ranch & Spa, Magee Homestead, Paradise Guest Ranch and 6 others describe their stays as all-inclusive. What that covers varies (drinks, gratuities and airport transfers are not always included), so check each ranch page.
7D Ranch, A Bar A Ranch, Absaroka Ranch, Brush Creek Ranch, CM Ranch, Eatons’ Ranch and 10 others run children's programs. Minimum riding ages differ by ranch, usually between 5 and 8.
