Wapiti, Wyoming
THE EXPERIENCE
Rimrock Dude Ranch sits at about 6,200 feet on Canyon Creek, at the edge of the Shoshone National Forest in the Absaroka Range, 25 miles west of Cody and 27 miles from Yellowstone’s East Entrance. It has been family-owned and operated since 1955 and is now run by the second generation.
Rimrock is small, with room for about 30 to 36 guests, so everyone is on first-name terms by midweek. Summer weeks run Sunday to Sunday from June through August, and the weekly program is generous: daily rides for novice and experienced riders, from breakfast rides to half- and all-day rides, plus a rafting trip, a night at the Cody rodeo and an all-day tour of Yellowstone, all part of the week along with airport transfers. Trail riding starts at age 6, and there is fishing in a stocked pond, a pool, a hot tub, a game room and massages.
Guests stay in nine cabins sleeping from one to ten people, and meals mix buffets with family-style dinners and outdoor barbecues. Yellowstone Regional Airport in Cody is about 27 miles away. Ask the ranch for current rates.
