THE EXPERIENCE
Where Every Moment Tells a Story
The TA Ranch near Buffalo, Wyoming is a working cattle ranch on a restored 1880s Wyoming Territory homestead, with 8,000 acres of badlands to ride. Its buildings still carry bullet holes from the Johnson County War, trails follow routes used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and there are teepee rings left by Crow scouts on the Bozeman Trail.
The ranch hosts up to 26 guests from May through October, with three-night stays. Riding includes horsemanship and private lessons, beginner rides, cattle work and faster trotting and loping rides, with trail riding from age 8, plus multi-day cattle drives. There is private and guided fishing on Crazy Woman Creek and a stocked reservoir, archery and shooting, hiking, yoga, team penning and dancing.
Guests stay in lodge rooms with private baths in the Ranch House, Bunkhouse, Milk Barn and Granary. Meals come from a 140-year-old scratch kitchen in the Cookhouse, using TA grass-fed beef and honey and ingredients from within 100 miles. Sheridan County Airport is about 50 miles away and an airport shuttle is available. Ask the ranch for current rates.
