Encampment, Wyoming
THE EXPERIENCE
Goosewing Ranch sits at about 7,400 feet deep in the Gros Ventre valley near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with cabins looking over the Gros Ventre River. It takes about 35 guests a week from June through September, with a three-night minimum.
Riding is the main event, with horses matched to each guest: beginner rides, faster trotting and loping rides for experienced riders, arena lessons, cattle work and team penning, with trail riding from age 6. Off the horse there is fly-fishing instruction on a stocked pond and a stretch of the Gros Ventre, archery and shooting, UTV tours including sunset drives, hiking, mountain biking, yoga, a heated pool, sauna and hot tub. There is a children’s program for ages 6 to 8, plus adults-only weeks.
Guests stay in eight log cabins with private baths and porches or three two-bedroom family cabins. Meals are served family-style in the main lodge, which has a stone fireplace and a loft bar, and in an outdoor kitchen with a wood-burning oven. Jackson Hole Airport is about 33 miles away, with an airport shuttle. Ask the ranch for current rates.
