Teton Village, Wyoming
THE EXPERIENCE
T Cross Ranch sits at about 7,800 feet inside the Shoshone National Forest, some 15 miles from Dubois and about two miles from the Washakie Wilderness, roughly two hours east of Jackson Hole. It began in 1918 as a homestead and hunting and fishing camp called the Hermitage; in 1929 Robert and Helen Cox bought it, renamed it T Cross and turned it into a dude ranch. Its historic log buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, and the land has been under a conservation easement since 1978.
This is a remote, quiet ranch: no TV, no landline and no cell service. Riding is the main event, through forest and high country, and Horse Creek, which runs through the property, is a favorite for fly fishing. In summer the ranch also offers short pack trips into the high country, reaching elevations of up to 11,600 feet, with tents, bedding, food, riding and pack horses, wranglers and guides all provided.
T Cross suits riders and anglers looking for a genuine wilderness week rather than resort amenities. Jackson Hole Airport is about two hours away. Ask the ranch for current season dates, rates and what each stay includes.
