West Yellowstone, Montana
THE EXPERIENCE
The 63 Ranch lies at about 5,600 feet among aspen and pine, 12 miles from Livingston and about 50 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. The same family has owned and run it continuously since 1929, and the owners still ride out with guests every day. The ranch is a licensed Montana outfitter and rides on the Gallatin National Forest under a special use permit.
Riding is for everyone from age 6 to seniors, with arena lessons for beginners and advanced riders alike. Children 6 and older join all activities and rides, and there is a stocked pond where kids can practise fly fishing. Between rides, guests hear talks on local history, geology and wildflowers, and evenings bring cookouts, marshmallow roasts, nature walks, square dancing, sing-alongs and live music.
Guests stay in rustic log and frame cabins with modern bathrooms, with daily housekeeping, and family-style meals with homemade desserts are served in the lodge. Bozeman’s airport is about 50 miles away, and the ranch can arrange a pickup. Ask the ranch for current season dates and rates.
