THE EXPERIENCE
Rancho de los Caballeros is a large guest ranch and golf resort near Wickenburg, about 75 miles northwest of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, set in an 18,000-acre stretch of Sonoran Desert. It has operated for more than 75 years and can host up to about 225 guests, which makes it one of the bigger ranches in the Southwest.
Riding is still the heart of a stay, with beginner rides, horsemanship and private lessons, faster rides, cattle work and team penning. What sets Caballeros apart is the range of other things to do: golf on the ranch’s own facilities, with lessons, plus tennis, pickleball, archery and shooting sports, hiking, mountain and e-biking, yoga and birdwatching. Children’s programs are organized by age from 2 to 17, so parents can ride or play golf while kids are looked after.
Guests stay in casitas and eat at several restaurants, from buffet breakfasts in the main dining room to the club grill. The ranch requires a three-night minimum. Like most Arizona guest ranches it is at its best from fall to spring; ask the ranch about current season dates and rates.
