THE EXPERIENCE
Covered Wagon Ranch opened as a guest ranch in 1925 and is one of the oldest continuously operating ranches in the Gallatin Canyon, at about 6,800 feet between Bozeman and Yellowstone. With room for only about 20 guests, many of them returning families now on their fourth generation of visits, it feels like a gathering of friends: owners, staff and guests eat dinner together, family-style.
The season runs from June through September, mostly with six-night stays. There is no fixed schedule, so guests choose each day: horsemanship lessons, beginner and advanced rides and all-day rides, with trail riding from age 6, plus fishing, hiking, swimming, pack trips and birdwatching. The ranch schedules adults-only weeks, girlfriend getaways and horse clinics.
Guests stay in historic log cabins that keep their 1920s character, with wood-burning stoves and private baths. Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is about 55 miles away. Ask the ranch for current rates and stay options.
