THE EXPERIENCE
Tavaputs Ranch sits at about 9,000 feet on the Tavaputs Plateau in Utah’s Book Cliffs, on the eastern rim of Desolation Canyon, roughly three hours north of Green River. It was founded in 1889 and has been passed down through six generations of the same family, and it covers about 10,000 acres. It is the only privately owned ranch next to Range Creek, known for its ancient ruins and rock art.
The short season runs from late June to early September. Guests can help move cattle to their summer grazing, ride across the plateau and hike along the canyon rim, with ranch-style buffet meals three times a day. Tours of the Range Creek ruins and rock art are limited to 28 people a day.
Tavaputs is remote and real: a working ranch in some of the least-visited country in the West. Ask the ranch for current rates and how to get there.
