THE EXPERIENCE
Brewster’s Kananaskis Guest Ranch sits on the Bow River about 30 minutes east of Banff, with Canmore and Lake Louise within easy reach. It began as the Brewster family homestead in the 1880s and opened to guests in 1923, when Missy Bagley Brewster commissioned the ranch’s Big House to give visitors a taste of ranch life; over the years the guest book has included the Disney, Eaton and Woodward families.
The ranch is known for its riding, and especially for long-distance backcountry rides into the Rockies, with sleeping cabins at its backcountry camps. Rafting, canoeing, hiking and golf on the ranch’s own course round out a stay, which makes it an easy add-on to a Banff trip.
Guests stay in modern rooms in chalets and cabins, or book the historic Big House, which sleeps ten in four bedrooms and has a wraparound verandah over the river. Calgary International is the nearest major airport. Ask the ranch for current rates and packages.
