THE EXPERIENCE
Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch sits at about 6,300 feet near McLeod, north of Yellowstone National Park, surrounded by around a million acres of wilderness. It takes a maximum of about 20 guests, from June through September, with six-night stays in summer and adults-only weeks during the season.
Rates are all-inclusive with no extra fees. Trail riding is the core of the week, with riding from age 6, and the program also includes fly fishing, hiking, swimming, a rafting trip on the Yellowstone River and a six-wheel-drive jeep ride into the high country. Meals are Western-style buffets with homemade bread and desserts, plus two cookouts a week, weather permitting.
Guests stay in lodge rooms, cabins or the Eagles Nest Lodge, perched on top of a 300-foot cliff with a circular fireplace in its central room. There is a hot tub, and the ranch runs an airport shuttle from Bozeman Yellowstone International, about 87 miles away. Ask the ranch for current rates.
